WHY RIDGEBACKS?

It all started in 2011...when I asked my husband, "Can we get a puppy?"  and NOT just any puppy, I wanted a Ridgeback.  Through tons of reading and research, I had fallen in love with the Rhodesian Ridgeback. I knew this amazing breed was perfect for our family.  Our girls, Napa (an English Labrador) and Blueberry (a Queensland Heeler) were sadly creeping up in doggie years...so, I wanted to make sure we found the right puppy to add to our family while they were young enough to assist with training.

To make a long story short, my husband kept telling me, "No puppies!"...What I didn't know (because he kept it to himself) was that he also always wanted a Ridgeback.  A few months later, God put us in just the right place to meet Dolly.  She was 9 months old--stunning and VERY well mannered.  She was out with her owner running errands and of course, we struck up a conversation.  As I was petting Dolly, I didn't know that my husband had quietly asked for the breeders information.  He later connected with Margaret Smith Davis of Neema Kennels (who is now our dear friend and my mentor) and surprised me 4 months later with the most adorable picture of 8 precious Ridgeback puppies...I asked whose pups they were?  He replied, "well, one is ours and you get first pick!".  That's how we came to select our first Ridgeback, Sheba and our love affair with this incredible breed started.

The years have passed...our Ridgeback family, both 2-legged and 4-legged has expanded by leaps and bounds.  We are connected through our incredible dogs and BLESSED with the most amazing friends as a result of finding Margaret (Peggy Davis) and becoming immersed in this outstanding breed.  With Sheba we attended our first "puppy class" including 4 of her siblings at 12 weeks.  Paula Cingota of Summerfield Kennels is by far the most knowledgeable, experienced, amazing (and I mean, absolutely jaw dropping) dog trainer we have ever had the priveledge of being educated by and also, our dearest friend.  Confidence building is essential for the young pup!  She got us "hooked" on training which, led to our first Rally titles then, onto Obedience and we soon found ourselves in the Conformation ring.

So, there you have it!  Whether you have an initial interest in a Rhodesian Ridgeback for your family or have been blessed to raise a Ridgeback and are looking to welcome a new pup...We are delighted to connect and determine if a Nyana Ridgeback is right for you!  As part of the Nyana family, our puppy parents know that we are always available to answer questions, provide training tips and ensure that with your dedication to the proper training, a very well-mannered and oh-so loveable Ridgeback will grace your home.

We truly hope you enjoy the information our website provides and our Rhodesian Ridgebacks!
